Dentures in Reno, NV

Partial or full tooth loss can greatly affect your healthy and self-confidence. Missing teeth can significantly increase your risk of developing other systemic health and nutritional problems. Luckily, dentures are an option for restoring your smile and to make chewing and eating a normal process again.

Dentures are removable and replace your natural teeth. They are designed to look like natural teeth and are carefully crafted to match your smile’s appearance. Keep reading to learn more!

Full Dentures

Full Dentures are worn by patients who are missing all of their teeth in either the maxillary or mandibular arch. This means that the complete dentures cover the entire upper or lower jaw. Full dentures are made of false teeth attached to a gum-colored base. There are several types of full dentures available for you:

  • Immediate Dentures – To prevent the discomfort of living without teeth, immediate dentures are usually the best option. Immediate dentures can be worn immediately after the last tooth is removed, but because the jaw modifies continuously during the healing process, periodic adjustments will need to be made to your new dentures. Immediate dentures are recommended as a temporary treatment until conventional dentures can be worn.
  • Overdentures – This type of denture will try to save whatever is possible from your natural teeth. They are designed to accommodate your existing teeth. Keeping your natural teeth helps maintain the condition of your jawbone and provide support for the dentures. Dental implants can also be used for support.
  • Conventional Dentures – Conventional dentures are recommended for patients with completely healed gums. They can usually be implemented eight weeks after your last tooth extraction. A patient’s gum healing time can vary, and the exact time needed for the denture installation will be determined by your dentist. During and after your healing time, it is important to maintain good dental hygiene and an appropriate diet to facilitate healing.

Denture Care and Maintenance

The care and maintenance of your dentures can vary depending on the type of dentures used. Dr. Silvaroli will review the do’s and don’ts when wearing dentures with you, but there are a few general rules each patient should follow:

  • Dentures should to be worn continuously during first few weeks while the patient gets accustomed to them. After this period, the denture can be removed during the night for comfort.
  • When your dentures are not being worn, they must be placed in a special container and fully covered with water to preserve flexibility.
  • Dentures need to be cleaned every day with a non-abrasive cleanser and a toothbrush with soft bristles.
  • Don’t forget to visit the dentist regularly for adjustments and routine checks on gums and remaining teeth.

Dentures can improve your appearance, boost your self-esteem and make eating more comfortable. If you are missing teeth, visit Silvaroli Dental in Reno to see if dentures are right for you!
